Fifth Graders Debate Decisions by Civil Rights Leaders

Our fifth graders studied the stories of civil rights leaders Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks in preparation for a student-led discussion about the Montgomery bus boycott. Was it the right choice for the NAACP to overlook Colvin in favor of Parks as the face of the movement challenging bus segregation in the city? Students successfully debated their differing positions on Friday as part of a “hands-down discussion.”
